2024-2025 GRAETC Mini-Grant Awardees

Let’s celebrate! The GRAETC Mini-Grant committee is happy announce the 2024-2025 school year awardees! This year our awarded funds will be supporting teachers and students in Colonial Heights, Richmond, Prince George and Powhatan.

Check out how the current awardees applicants were funded for their projects that support GRAETC’s mission:

A 21st Century Art Room

Cindy Bell, PK-5 Art Educator, North Elementary School, Colonial Heights Public Schools

Project Summary:  The funding for this project went towards purchasing a document camera, as well as several ‘light boxes’ that will be used to engage students in tracing and transferring images onto various surfaces in the art classroom.

Meta Quest 2

Carla Wood, Educational Technology Integrator, Richmond Career Education and Employment Academy, Richmond Public Schools

Project Summary: The funding was used to purchase two Meta Quest 2 headsets to help increase the additional headsets available for students to engage in meaningful virtual experiences.

Middle School E-Sports

Stephen York, Instructional Technology Resource Teacher, JEJ Moore Middle School, Prince George County Public Schools

Project Summary: The funding for this grant was used to purchase items to begin an eSports program in their middle school.

Zumi-ing into the Future

Amber Ritter, Gifted Resource Teacher, Powhatan and Flat Rock Elementary School, Powhatan County Public Schools

Project Summary:  Funds were used to purchase Zumi Robots and accessories to support computer science learning.

The GRAETC Executive Committee looks forward to doing site visits during the school year to see the organization’s funds in use with students in the classroom.  Interested in learning more about the GRAETC Mini-Grant? Application for the next fiscal year will open on March 1, 2025.

Authorship 

Dr. Stephanie Playton is a STEM Specialist at Longwood University’s Institute for Teaching Through Technology and Innovative Practices (ITTIP).
